In 1932, Danish Dr. Emil Vodder (1896-1986) and his wife Dr. Estrid Vodder began to study and research the lymph system, and developed careful hand movements to cause lymph movement. In 1936 they introduced this technique to the world in Paris, France. They spent the rest of their lives demonstrating and teaching this method.
Scientific studies, as well as vast clinical experience, have supported the effectiveness of MLD.
The therapeutic benefits of MLD evidenced by more than 40 years of research are well documented. It is widely prescribed by physicians in Europe. Many physicians in the U.S. and Canada also recognize the benefits of MLD for their patients.
Benefits of MLD:
In MLD the skin is carefully, gently stretched and twisted with the specific pressure, direction and speed to move excess fluid away from the affected site towards functional networks of lymphatic vessels and nodes. This special technique is taught in its unaltered form today at the Dr Vodder School and is the gold standard for Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD). MLD is effective as a stand-alone treatment and in combination with other therapies. It can benefit a healthy person as well as be applied to more than sixty different conditions. MLD has grown to be the world’s most well-known manual technique to assist lymphatic drainage.
Ortho-Bionomy is a form of bodywork therapy and postural re-education that was developed in the 1970’s by British trained Osteopath, Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls. The principles and philosophy of Ortho-Bionomy are based in osteopathy, homeopathy, and martial arts. Dr. Pauls named his work Ortho-Bionomy to denote “the correct application of the natural laws of life.”
“Change can only come about when the instincts of the body are summoned up in such a way that the body does not resist this change. Anything beyond this is force.”
~ Arthur Lincoln Pauls, D.O.
Ortho-Bionomy uses comfortable positioning, gentle compression, and slow easy movements to work with your nervous system to stimulate your body’s innate, self-regulating and self-balancing responses. The result is seemingly effortless pain and tension relief, natural realignment, relaxation, and a deep sense of wellbeing. Ortho-Bionomy helps people break the cycle of pain without causing pain.
Many clients have found Ortho-Bionomy helpful with conditions such as:
Comfort is a key consideration in an Ortho-Bionomy session. Ortho-Bionomy’s non-invasive techniques are gentle enough for all, from children to elders, from acute to chronic pain sufferers, from the immobile to the super athletic. Whether you are looking for relief from specific discomfort or a safe and effective way to ease stress and promote relaxation, Ortho-Bionomy can be very beneficial.
Ortho-Bionomy can be compatible with most healing systems.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger who served from 1975-1983 as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University. The results of those scientific studies explained the function of the craniosacral system, and its use in evaluating and treating poorly understood malfunctions of the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Upledger developed CranioSacral Therapy (CST) and are now taught worldwide to healthcare professionals through the Upledger Institute International’s educational programs.
When we endure stresses and strains your body absorbs them. But your body can only handle so much tension before the tissues begin to tighten and potentially affect the brain and spinal cord. Unfortunately, this can compromise the function of the central nervous system and nearly every other system in your body.
CST is a gentle, hands-on technique that involves the craniosacral system -- a system of the body composed of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Practitioners use a light touch to evaluate strain patterns, and to release any restrictions or "blockages" in the body that can contribute to pain and dysfunction. CST releases those tensions to allow the entire body to relax and self-correct. And because it’s so gentle, CST has been shown to be effective for all ages, from newborns to elders.
CST aids in improving mental clarity and emotional well-being, and improves your body’s ability to take better care of you. It has been shown to help people with a full spectrum of pain and dysfunction, including:
The human body has an innate ability to heal itself. CST facilitates or enhances the body’s own natural capacity to heal when trauma or disease processes become overwhelming for the system. By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best, CST has been shown to naturally reduce pain and stress, strengthen your resistance to disease, and enhance your health and well-being.
Alastair McLoughlin is the architect and developer of the McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release Technique (MSTR). Alastair as an experienced bodyworker in remedial massage since early 1980’s spent over seven years (1997-2005) teaching as one of the UK’s senior instructors with The Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia. During those teaching years, Alastair developed his own bodywork techniques to enhance his clinical work. One of his techniques – and, in his words, “probably the most valuable and important technique I ever developed” – is his scar tissue release work.
MSTR has attracted immense interest from healthcare professionals of all kinds of modalities and disciplines. Alastair and his international teaching team is committed to teach the scar release work, MSTR, all over the world.
The specific features that make MSTR an effective technique is: light pressure, rapid moves, slow tempo, and the multi-directional movements. The combination of the above allows for reorganization of the reticular fiber and encourages the remodeling process to take place. The light pressure promotes relaxation.
“If the scar is untreated, it may be the cause of therapeutic failure and recurrence.”
~Karel Lewit M.D.
Scar tissue may have a huge influence on your presenting problems as they can cause restrictions in fascia, reduction in blood and lymph flow, weaken muscular strength, reduce the flow of energy, and/or inhibit joint movement.
The benefits of MSTR are plenty and including: increase blood and lymph circulation, increase range of movement in joints, increase the flow of nerve signals, pain reduction, restore stamina and hope, and reconnection with body parts thus, feeling whole again.
MSTR is suitable for:
MSTR® is an innovative, pain-free, natural method of helping you with your scars. Gentle, finger-tip pressure is applied to the area to help free the restrictions in the scar. No force is involved and the work is always applied within your tolerance.
